Sliding Door Converted to Classic French Door Set

Sliding glass doors are fine - until they're not. They wear out, get harder to open over time, and honestly, they just don't add much character to a home. This homeowner wanted something that felt more intentional, more classic. So we pulled the old slider out and put in a set of swinging french doors instead.

The opening already had a transom window above it, which we kept. The new french doors fit right into that same rough opening, which kept the job clean and efficient. Both the interior and exterior trim were built out with fresh casing to frame everything properly. The grid pattern on the door glass adds that traditional detail that sliders just can't give you.

A conversion like this isn't just cosmetic. Swinging doors give you a wider, unobstructed opening when both panels are open - great for moving furniture, entertaining, or just making the backyard feel more connected to the living space. And the hardware is a big part of the look too. The matte black lever handle ties everything together nicely.

This is the kind of exterior door installation that changes how a room feels. The trim work still needs paint, but even at this stage you can see how much cleaner and more finished the whole wall looks compared to where we started. Fresh paint will be the final step to pull it all together.
